As the release date of the seventh and last book of the “Harry Potter” series is getting closer, the most exciting question is not: “Will Voldemort be defeated?”, no it’s mostly obvious that Voldemort will be defeated, the really important question, is: “Is Severus Snape good or evil”. There are many theories out on the net, debating over different facts, theories and hypothetic ideas regarding his choice between good and evil, but in my opinion there is a third option Snape can take.
I think we have all discovered since the third book, that the universe Mr Potter lives in is not plain white and black, but shades of gray. So there is no such question as: “Is Snape good or evil?”; There is only a question like: “Where lies the loyalty of Severus Snape?” — See? I think you’re catching my drift. When that question came to me, I thought: “What if Snape is only loyal to himself?”, “What if he plays Voldemort and Dumbledore against each other?”
But for what purpose? Most possibly because he wants to be “The dark Lord” himself, and he needs Voldemort out of the way, so he can continue with his studies of the dark arts without Voldemort breathing down his neck, trying to keep him weak. That could explain some parts of his behavior, especially towards Harry. Maybe the _big showdown_ in book seven is not really Harry vs. Voldemort, but Snape and Harry vs. Voldemort.
Maybe Snape tries to use Harry as a diversion for his own attack on the dark lord. Except the fact that his and Voldemorts wands are “twins”, Harry stands no chance against Voldemort. Maybe there is some mysterious power inside of Harry, but observing his behaviour this power can not be “love” or “kindness” or something like that, or it’s buried really deep inside his character.
So we may wait and see how the last book will finish the storyline. I do hope there won’t be too many twists and turns in it, I could not bear too much more. ‘Nuff said.
